The FOLUR Papua New Guinea project is focused on cocoa and palm oil. Production of palm oil in the country is dominated by two large-scale plantation companies, while cocoa production engages around 20 percent of the rural population through smallholder production systems.

Over the past year, Papua New Guinea project teams assessed progress on farm extension and land-use planning. Other key activities included capacity building through practical demonstrations on post-harvest cocoa processing, and by equipping farmers with new techniques to enhance yield and quality. Community awareness was raised through information sessions held on climate-smart agriculture. both farmers and stakeholders engaged in sustainability dialogues.

In 2025, the project is emphasizing farm extension training, strengthening Land Use Information Management System (LUIMS) implementation, continuing community engagement on sustainable land-use planning, enhancing support for cocoa and oil palm value chains and increasing stakeholder collaboration for effective policy implementation.
